LITERALLY, A GARDEN FOR FIVE YEAR OLDS!

How many people have remarked that the minute we transition four year old toddler Curious Charles to kindergarten, at age five, he often learns to "sit still", fold his hands, listen and be quiet, and basically stop being so curious.

"We talk about education reform but we need educated reform. Maybe WE ADULTS are the ones who need reformation"

I am searching for what is best for society and it is becoming more and more clear that one size does not fit all. Established schooling and lecture to an audience of children is not a garden. Wiki is not always the best either but when it clearly states that kindergarten was meant to be playing, drawing, singing, and social interaction...and a search on Google comes up with "worksheets for kindergarten", kindergarten math lessons and apps, and lessons, it seems overdone.

At the foundation of education is the parent, who trusts a system to lead their child forward towards growth. The last seven years, since the recession, have flipped our thinking of success from "you must go to college" back to hoping and praying everyone will get a job.  I sat next to women with doctorates and their grown kids with double masters who allegedly were doing TA or Para work, not that that is disdainful but that years of pedagoguery resulted in what they called "butt wiping" and serving physically special needs youth.

At home, the role of the learner is to mimic and follow their mom, parent, guardian, dad or grandma in eating, pottying, keeping the house orderly, and playing. As we (the moms) sing the A, B, C's and other songs about science and myth, we are showing our children fun rhymes, patterns to education.

How do children learn? Cognitively, behaviorally, and/or constructively. These are some theories.  The reality is a combination of what will help society and how does our kid want to contribute to society. The choice is slowly becoming his.
